Ocean Shores entrance
Last we went to visit Kari's friends Andy and Sarah who live in the Ocean Shores area. To drive to the ocean from where we live takes about 2 hours. If you look at the map of Washington, we are a bit inland even though we do have the Puget Sound near by. Ocean Shores is a small city with some beach like qualities. It has rentals such as bikes etc. It has many hotels. Places for pizza and ice cream. Today was a very nice day to be on the beach. But don't get it twisted, most of the time Washington beaches are usually gray, cold, and rainy.

The beach is untamed in Washington. It isn't at all like the beaches I know in California. Those beaches in California are more developed. The have stores and homes there on or near the beach. Here it is as if Columbus could be sailing up any minute. There isn't a break water and the beach doesn't have lifeguards. As you can see, cars can drive on the beach (which I don't agree with). I had to watch out for traffic with the boys more than when they are in my neighborhood. Plus they get stuck in the sand. The people below got stuck and Kari and her friends were trying to get them out. Funny thing is that there were more people in the van who didn't get out to help. Kari told me that they were from another country so she didn't think they knew what to do.
One of the scary things about the beach in Washington is that there are many people (more than there should be) that get caught in the rip tides in the water. Many people have drowned from being taken out to sea. Earlier this year there was a young girl and his brother who were taken out. One was saved but one died. I won't go out there to swim and won't let the boys either. I have a lot of respect for it. It is very unforgiving to swimmers.
