My alma mater is Robert A. Millikan High School in Long Beach, California. Last year my class of 1973 celebrated 40 years since we graduated. Many of my close friends and other classmates have reconnected because of Facebook. I would say that many of those I hear from daily are from that time of my life.
The school itself was named after an American scientist. It was built in the 1950s. I remember thinking the school was as old as we were. It held a lot students. I remember one year I was there we had 5001 students. It was in an area of growth and we were/are baby boomers. The photo above is an aerial view of the school when it was built and it looked a lot like that when I was there.
Our mascots were two Rams... Robbie and Millie. This is what they looked like in 73. Below is a newer couple of them.
Personally, I had a great time in high school despite the things happening at home. My folks divorced, my dad was in a wheelchair because of MS and I stayed close to home a lot (didn't date much). But he was a wonderful dad and I have no regrets. I had really wonderful friends too who included me in everything. So we did all right.
My memories of high school were football games and hanging out in these halls (outside mostly).
The worst things were the Viet Nam war, the London flu (I didn't get), and our gym outfits.
They were good for holding extra tennis balls in the legs
Hope you enjoyed my looking back to high school!

I enjoyed your Homework Danna! Oh I hated those gym suits too! So ugly! Your school was certainly a big one!! Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed your hw page. I agree - the high school years are so important and should be just wonderful. You did a good job on this assignment. Oh yeah, I kinda like your gym uniform. Ours was much worse. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Danna! I enjoyed your assignment! I think those gym suits are kind of cute. Guess I'm an odd ball? lol Ours were just t-shirts and shorts. Quite the difference in the Rams from 1973 to now, huh? lol Thanks for sharing your school life and joining in on the September assignment! Your grade is waiting for you at http://chatterbugcollege.blogspot.com/p/grab-your-grade.html
